Hi, my name is Lynn. I'm the programmer responsible for this site. I developed the database and coupon management system a few years ago. I was mainly interested in trying to make sure I could benefit from the online and Sunday coupons in a more organized way. I'm a guy so I have a natural reluctance to extreme shop, but I'm also thrifty.

When I developed this, I was caring for (and shopping for) my mother. We were a two person household, and each of us had our favorite brands. I basically wanted a system which would remind me of any useful coupons before I headed off to the store. I was already using the computer to keep a grocery list, and I'm a retired programmer, so it was just natural to tinker with a database to match it all up.

Well, in the three years that mom and I shared a home, it worked great and saved us a fair amount of money. Like I said, I never approached it in an extreme way, just as a casual project to save a little money on groceries for a two-person household. Basically, we would look over the Sunday booklets for items that we used and go online ocassionally to check out printables. (again, just for items that we normally used)

My system evolved to be simple, but very effective. I would print out the list of coupons we had available and keep it near the pantry. We used the same piece of paper for our grocery notes so it was easy to check if we had a coupon when adding an item. I never bothered to clip the coupons until I was ready to make the weekly run to the supermarket. It was easier to just leave them in the Red Plum or Smartsource ETC and keep those in a drawer. Besides, mom was in a wheelchair and she looked forward to cutting them out when it was time. It was "her" job and she enjoyed it. (We had both already tried the paper clip, envelope, wallet/organizer method and who needs that! Tiny pieces of paper that you are sure you have but can never find when you need that can of soup for a recipe)

Well, mom passed this spring at 87 so I'm just shopping for one now. Another part of the change is that I have more free time. I've decided that I would like to share my system with others who might benefit. I haven't figured out the best way to do that just yet but I'm confident I'll be able to work something out.
